It was raining out today, pouring, pouring, pouring.
Mom looked out the back door and at first she thought
there was a turkey buzzard in the yard!!!
It was a huge bird as tall as Ko Ko and Merlin almost.

But when Mom looked closer she saw it was not a buzzard,
but a falcon or hawk with a fresh kill. He was eating the innards
of something. In the pouring rain.

He is really huge. Mom said he would eat
the ratties if he saw them and probably bunny
'cause Rabbie isn't very big and he is plump
and would make a tasty morsel. Which is
why we can't go outside.

The falcon gets to go outside, in the rain,
and eat, and fly. This bird is BIG. He is standing about
100 feet out in the yard.
The closest hawk listed that Mom could find that looked
like our hawk was the Northern Goshawk, but they are
supposed to live in forest areas. However, they are really large
and like to hunt rabbits which could be what happened
to our family of wild rabbits that lived in the yard under
the shed out back where the bird happens to be eating.
They disappeared awhile ago. Hmmmm. Wonder why this
birdy is not in the forest or maybe Mom misidentified it.
Anyy ideas anyone? It was very tall at least 24 inches.

Those really are amazing photos. I love all your animals. My husband and I have 4 gerbils and 1 cat and that keeps us pretty busy, so I'm sure you must be extra, extra busy.

Wow, that is pretty cool! I iz no bird expert, actually expert at nothing but I haz seen that animals will often go out of their "comfort zone" when the need arises.
Maybee there was not enough food or forests left? either way I would be hate to be taking my walks outside he would scoop little me up in an instant! hehe

Thank you so much for visiting me, you haz such a wonderful and diverse families, we will much enjoy visiting you :)

Oh how fascinating. But it isn't fair that the bird is outside and you aren't--but I would worry if you had been given that he's a bigger hunter...

That is so cool!! Impressive pictures.

Since birds of prey eat rodents we are sure glad they stay outside!

Maybe it's a Cooper's Hawk? I had those living in my yard a few summers ago and they ate all kinds of little birds (practically the only thing on our menu). They are quite large (the female is larger) and they're all over NM year-round.

Mine live across the street now and come by every now and then to say hi.

Oh, how cool! Too neat to see it eating. I'm sure it's a hawk, but I don't know what kind.

Wow! That's a scary looking bird...We think we'd stay inside where it's safe. Wouldn't want to be his dinner!

This looks like a dangerous bird! Stay inside, ratties, Rabbie and Tonks. And maybe the cats too!
We don't have birds like that in our country, our Mom says.
Lucky for us!

Wow! That's a big bird. But I don't know my bird types much. Ask the bird chick (http://www.birdchick.com/blog.html) I bet she'll know. (She's also the disapproving rabbits lady.) That bird looks like reason enough for all of you to stay inside.
